South Central promotes a style of hockey that is open, fair and welcoming to all, reflecting
England Hockey’s commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion. Our aim is to make the
sport accessible, respectful and meaningful for every community we serve.
A Sport that Reflects Society
We aim to make hockey a sport that everyone can participate in, whether playing, watching,
delivering, governing and enjoying. This commitment involves embracing diversity and
removing any barriers that could limit participation for any group within society.
Welcoming and Respectful Culture
England Hockey’s Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Framework outlines practical steps to build
safe, respectful and inclusive environments where everyone feels they belong. It emphasises
learning from members’ experiences, connecting with a wide range of communities, and
fostering spaces in which every individual is recognised, supported and valued.
Accessible and Equitable Opportunities
Membership is committed to making hockey accessible to people from every background. This
involves providing a wide variety of playing formats and programmes, from youth and adult
opportunities to disability-inclusive initiatives such as Flyerz, and ensuring that information,
facilities and support are available and welcoming to everyone.
Respect for Identity and Inclusion
Policies and guidance, including frameworks designed to support people of all identities and
backgrounds, work to create environments where everyone is welcomed, valued and treated
with respect. England Hockey continues to develop its approach to inclusion, inviting feedback
and collaboration to strengthen access, representation and a sense of belonging throughout
the sport.
Continuous Improvement
Inclusion isn’t a finished task; it’s a continual journey. Through advisory groups, framework
actions and ongoing engagement with members and communities, the sport works to improve
representation, reduce barriers and make hockey more accessible and enjoyable for all.
