David Lane - Known as Tex

It is with immense sadness that I share the news that David Lane passed away in the early hours of this morning.

Tex was one of the founding members of NPUA and integral to our formation just over twenty years ago. As the association’s secretary in our early years and creator of the web system that was so crucial for us and many other associations, he was critical to our success. He was one of our most capped domestic umpires, and had an impressive international umpire management career, gaining respect around Europe for his honest and analytical style.

On a personal note. I’m so pleased Tex was able to join us for our anniversary dinner in September, to see many of his hockey friends and reflect on his immense contribution to making NPUA the association that it is today.

Tex was an incredibly popular man and had many friends throughout the hockey community. I know that this news will hit many of us very hard, so I encourage you to reach out to friends and family members. If you have a fixture this weekend, please share your memories of Tex with your colleagues and those that knew him.

NPUA will forever be in Tex’s debt, and we will miss him greatly.
